Declaration of the 9th Congress of Women in Poznan

Added: 27 września 2017

We - women gathered at the 9th Congress of Women in Poznan, declare our will to continue fighting for women's rights and fulfilling equality demands, without which no community can be free and fair. Constantly and with full determination, we demand respect for our autonomy and recognition of reproductive rights. We demand effective action against violence, and therefore implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. We demand real social policy - one which does not exclude women from the labour market, and retirement pensions. We demand parities in politics, and economy. We demand modern and non-discriminatory education. We demand equal pay for equal work. We demand recognition of the rights of LGBT+ people. We demand cessation of the devastation of nature, support for women bringing up disabled children, and single mothers, we ask for recovery of child support. We demand equal treatment, equal liberties, equal opportunities and possibilities.

At the same time, we are aware that none of our postulates can be fulfilled in a country which does not respect the basic standards of democracy. Today we demand free courts, free media, respect for the Constitution and the rule of law.

At the same time, we declare our will to initiate and support any initiative that will strengthen Poland's position in the European Union and bring it out of today's isolation. Poland must be a European country, not a country "at the periphery", must be a country looking ahead and not in the past, must be a country of people equal in their rights, not a country of exclusion and oppression. We want to be free and equal in democratic Poland, which is a part of Europe and its solidarity.
