1st Congress of Women (2009)
The Congress formulated 135 postulates in areas covering politics, local governance, labour market, entrepreneurship, trade unions, health, education, science, media, violence, alimonies, national minorities, pensions, the 50+ age group, women trafficking, and women’s rights protection. The two main demands were to introduce gender parity in electoral lists and to appoint an independent plenipotentiary for equal treatment.
The participants of the Congress were welcomed by Jolanta Kwaśniewska, former 1st lady of Poland, and Maria Kaczyńska, current 1st lady of Poland. Professor Maria Janion’s lecture has opened the substantive part. Panel discussions were inaugurated by the discussion led by Professor Lena Kolarska-Bobińska. On the second day Melanne Verveer, the United States Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, co-founder and member of Vital Voices Global Partnership management, gave a speech.
